Houston, TX

Houston really takes "everything's bigger in Texas" to heart. Not only is it the biggest city in Texas, but it does everything big whether it's food, sports, or festivals. This is good news for travel nurses because it means Houston has tons of ways to explore during a contract. Houston is proud of its Texan identity, but it's also growing and changing with the times, which makes it the perfect blend of old and new.

Downtown Houston and the nearby Museum District are where much of the best dining and entertainment that Houston has to offer can be found. If you like to unwind from a busy shift with a walk or bike ride, head to Memorial Park. Nurses doubling as history enthusiasts will love a day at George Ranch Historical Park, a working ranch that is also a living history museum. Shoppers can get some retail therapy at the Galleria, which is the biggest mall in Texas and has a huge ice rink on the bottom floor for when you need to cool off from the Texas heat.

Houstonians love to celebrate, and you'll have plenty of chances celebrate with them during a travel contract. iFest is Houston's biggest art and music festival with tons of markets and performers to see. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the place to really get in touch with your inner Texan while watching the rodeo and sampling from the barbecue competition. The city celebrates the arrival of the rodeo with Go Texan Day, a day for dressing in old-school Western wear before the rodeo begins.

This is just a small sample of what Houston has to offer. You can also spend a day at Space Center Houston, NASA's own visitor center, check out the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market, fill up with some famous Tex-Mex or Texas steakhouse food, and take in a ball game, all while enjoying hot, sunny weather. You became a travel nurse because you love nursing; however, you also have those days off that are meant for exploring, and Houston is the perfect place for that. Give Nurses PRN a call to see what's available!
