The traveling RN looking for some excitement in a contract should really consider heading South to Louisiana. From the food to the music to the people to the events, everything in Louisiana is bold, and there's no way you're leaving without plenty of memorable experiences to talk about.
There's quite a bit of variation across the state of Louisiana, from the buzzing streets of New Orleans to the Southern coast of the Gulf of Mexico to the quiet swamps, bayous, and plantations. During a travel contract, you'll have time to explore all of it. The Southern coast of the state is known as "Cajun country" for being the birthplace of the Cajun food and music that has become characteristic of the entire state.
The travel nurse ready to have some fun needs to look no further than New Orleans. Go to the French Quarter to try some of Louisiana’s famous seafood and listen to live music. If you're lucky enough to be in New Orleans during Mardis Gras, you can experience some of the world's best people watching while observing the elaborately decorated floats in the many parades making their way through the city.
If you prefer to enjoy what nature has to offer while on a nursing assignment, head to Sicily Island Hills. Surrounded by floodplains, the tall hills appear to be islands. They are filled with lush forest perfect for hiking, biking, or camping. You can even check out Louisiana's tallest waterfall and go gator watching while you're there.
One of the best parts of travel nursing is being able to explore, and there's few places as fun to explore as Louisiana. Whether you choose to spend your time trying crawfish in Cajun country or taking in the excitement of New Orleans, you will have memories to take home with you.
