While searching for your next travel nursing assignment, consider heading southwest to sunny New Mexico. Nicknamed the "land of enchantment," New Mexico has a balance of beautiful natural views and unique, energetic cities. Often thought of as desert land, New Mexico has a much more varied landscape than many are aware of, ranging from red rock desert to Alpine mountains that get covered in snow in winter months.
With the mountain ranges and the Rio Grande running through the state, the adventure-seeking travel RN will find plenty to do during an assignment in New Mexico. There are tons of national parks and monuments throughout the states containing canyons, caves, and mountains to be explored. Whether it's skiing, hiking, rock climbing, or camping, how you take in the beautiful scenery and painted sunsets is up to you.
With strong Mexican and Native American influence prevalent throughout the state, New Mexico has a cultural identify all its own. You can learn about the state's rich history at the Ancestral Puebloan ruins or get a dose of modern culture in Santa Fe, where art lovers and collectors gather in its notable galleries and museums.
If one of your favorite parts of being a traveling nurse is trying all kinds of local cuisine, you'll find some of the best Southwestern food in New Mexico. The Mexican influence on the state comes through in the spicy food like their famous enchiladas, which are so important to New Mexicans that there is a whole festival dedicated to them.
As a travel nurse, you have the privilege to work somewhere that you can take in beautiful sites like one of the world's largest balloon festivals and try new things like taking a river trip down the Rio Grande.
