Job Description

A Labor and Delivery RN provides a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, OR, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery Nurse has to have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery Nurse must be able to think in a fast passed setting and make decisions quickly. Labor and Delivery RNs help the obstetrician and spend long hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a Labor and Delivery Nurse some of your responsibilities consist of:
  • Making assessments of contractions, cervix for dilation, heart rates, etc.
  • Providing follow-up duties which include:
    • Analyzing the newborns general condition.
    • Checking the condition of the mother.
    • Watching for signs of trouble.
    • Checking for signs of infections and any other problems.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse within the past two years.
    • Current Nursing License in good standing.
    • Current Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
    • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
