RNL&D

A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse offers a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, operating room, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the physician. A Labor and Delivery Nurse must be able to think quickly and make decisions quickly. L&D RNs help the physician and spend long hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a L&D RN some of your duties consist of:
  • Providing assessment of contractions, cervix for dilation, fetal heart rate, etc.
  • Performing follow-up duties which include:
    • Analyzing the condition of the newborn.
    • Assessing the condition of the mother.
    • Watching for signs of distress.
    • Watching for signs of infections and any other complications.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery RN within the past two years.
    • Active RN License in good standing.
    • Up to date BLS from American Heart Association.
    • Negative Drug Screen.
