Job Description

A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse offers a balance of the same elements that are found in critical care, operating room, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery Nurse has to have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery Nurse must be able to think quickly and come up with solutions quickly. L&D Nurses work closely with the physician and spend many hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a L&D Registered Nurse some of your responsibilities include:
  • Making assessments of contractions, dilation, heart rates, etc.
  • Providing follow-up duties which include:
    • Analyzing the newborns general condition.
    • Assessing the condition of the mother.
    • Looking for signs of trouble.
    • Checking for signs of infections and any other complications.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Nurse within the past two years.
    • Active RN License in good standing.
    • Up to date Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
    • Negative Drug Screen.
