RNL&D

A Labor and Delivery Nurse offers a balance of the same elements that are found in critical care, operating room, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery RN must be able to think in a fast passed setting and make decisions quickly. L&D RNs work closely with the doctor and spend many hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a L&D RN some of your responsibilities include:
  • Providing assessment of contractions, dilation, heart rates, etc.
  • Providing follow-up duties which consist of:
    • Checking the newborns general condition.
    • Checking the condition of the mother.
    • Looking for signs of trouble.
    • Checking for signs of infections and any other complications.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse within the past two years.
    • Current RN License in good standing.
    • Up to date Basic Life Support through American Heart Association.
    • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
