Job Description

A Labor and Delivery RN provides a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, operating room, ER department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the physician. A Labor and Delivery RN must be able to think on their feet and come up with solutions quickly. Labor and Delivery Nurses aide the physician and spend many hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a Labor and Delivery RN some of your duties consist of:
  • Providing assessment of contractions, cervix for dilation, heart rates, etc.
  • Performing follow-up duties which consist of:
    • Assessing the newborns general condition.
    • Assessing the mothers condition.
    • Looking for signs of distress.
    • Watching for signs of infections and any other complications.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery RN within the past two years.
    • Current RN License in good standing.
    • Up to date Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
    • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
