Indiana is full of surprises for ALLIED! Of course, sports fans have the Indy 500, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Pacers too. But did you know you could spend a day at the beach in Indiana? Check out the Indiana Dunes on Lake Michigan for some the most beautiful beaches anywhere.
Indianapolis is the largest city in Indiana and it's home of the famous Indianapolis 500! But there is a lot more to Indianapolis for ALLIED to explore. One of the most romantic things to do is take an evening stroll along the White River Canal Walk . If romance isn't in the cards, visit in the daytime for a jog or rent a bike for a ride. If you're interested in history or just want to take pictures, you might want to visit the Conner Prairie Living History Museum just north of Indianapolis. Everyone will enjoy the Indianapolis Zoo where you can see (and touch) the dolphins, watch an elephant paint a piece of art, and there are always great special exhibits as well as the permanent collection of animals.
Lake Michigan is full of picture postcard opportunities. Most people don't think of going to the beach in the midwest, but the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park, along Lake Michigan, are spectacular. The scenery is great, you can lay on the beach or hike the dunes or through the adjacent woods.
Few people know that, Indiana has more covered bridges than any other state, including Iowa. Don't go to Madison County, visit Parke County, Indiana. Fifty-one of Indiana's ninety-eight covered bridges are concentrated in Parke County and the surrounding area.
Another great day trip is to the towns of French Lick and West Baden to see the historic French Lick resort and casino and take a ride on one of the trains of the French Lick Scenic Railway.
No matter how you like to spend your days off, you're sure to find something exciting in Indiana!
