Illinois

Illinois has a diverse culture with the combination of the fast paced lifestyle of Chicago, and the calmer, relaxing feel of the surrounding small towns. While working as a nurse in Illinois, you’ll find it all. If you enjoy the excitment of a sports game or two, they have a variety of sports teams such as the Chicago Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs, and White Sox. If you're a nurse that loves outdoor activities, then you've found the right place. They have several lakes and streams to take your turn at fishing. Visit the state parks for some scenic overlooks and to enjoy the miles of trails for hiking and biking. Illinois even has several spots for watching and observing bald eagles in their natural habit.

After your outdoor adventures, it’s time to head into the city for some arts and culture! Illinois features a vast array of theaters perfect for any nurse to kick back and enjoy some live entertainment, comedy shows, concerts, dance, family shows, and even shows directly from Broadway.  After a show, you should visit the wide variety of museums they have to offer - art museums, history museums, railway museums, science museums, and many more. They even have museums strictly for kids to play and discover.

Chicago being one of the largest cities in the US, is the highlight of Illinois, as it has so many things for nurses of all ages to experience while on a contract. They offer some of the best shopping around from small shops to upscale boutiques. If you're a nurse that loves pizza as much as we do, we have 2 words for you - deep dish. You must take the time to enjoy a famous Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, at least once in your life. They also offer other amazing dining experiences for you and your nursing friends to explore, from Chicago style hotdogs, to superb 5 star restaurants.

While in Chicago be sure to visit “The Loop.” It’s the historic commercial center of downtown Chicago home to a variety of historic buildings. This area includes Grant Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and its home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Goodman Theater, the Joffrey Ballet, and the Harold Washington Library. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, then you should check out the Chicago Chocolate Festival. Here you’ll get to try a variety of fine chocolates from all around the world. During February you can go to the Chicago Auto Show. This week long event features vehicles both old and new from all throughout the world.

When you're in Chicago, you must visit The Sears Tower and get your picture taken with The Bean. If it's nice out, you should also definitely take a visit to Navy Pier. Navy Pier is a 3,300 foot long pier on the Chicago shoreline with a breathtaking view. From seasonal celebrations, special events, festivals, and live entertainment, there is always something to take part in at the pier. Navy Pier also offers many places to eat, shop and enjoy the many rides of the Pier Amusment Park - making it a great place for EACH and EVERY nurse to travel to!

If you’re in the mood for some more action packed adventures - take a day trip to Six Flags Great America with your nursing buddies.  Great America boasts a wide variety of roller coasters, carnival games, food, water slides, wave pools and much more.  After your day at Great America you can "get your bargain shopping on" and visit the Gurnee Mills Mall! Gurnee Mills is the largest outlet shopping destination in Illinois. It’s visited by more than 20 million people every year and provides you with more than 200 stores to shop, and it even has a built in food court and movie theater if you want to relax after a long day of shopping.
